Boi: The Legacy

there will come a time when this chapter of my life is nil, but until that day I boldly take what happens to me and sap for everything it is worth.

A million things later

My life brings me to awkward situations, people, and queries.  My source of income is one such situation.

Work comes in goes in spurts rather than regular schedules credited to the average american household.  I work along the same schedule of a baseball team.  When a series of games are hosted at Tropicana Field I scurry my black Nissan Maxima to Tropicana Field seven hours before game time and swipe my badge.  My day normally begins with a trip to the bosses office (whom I refer to as Vackie JanSant) to pop my head in so that she knows I clocked in relatively close to when im supposed to.  Clock in times are generally vague at Tropicana Field, its more along the lines of “come in and give yourself enough time to complete all of your pregame duties.”  This is where the gigantic gray area comes in however.  For most of the employees thier pregame duties are pre-set.  One is either a bartender, or a suite attendant, or a party attendant.  In which case one of these professions would come in to a pre arranged zone around two hours before gates open.  There duties are pretty clear; clock in two hours prior to gates and gather utensils, drinks, food, alcohol, or whatever the duty inclines.  My job however is far less conclusive.  People often ask me what I do, and I never quite no how to answer it; I do a little bit of everything.  I do such a broad extent of things that fellow coworkers aren’t even sure of my job-title.  So with this philisophy I can draw parallels to players on the Rays.

The Rays always roster a player that they hope can be a “super-utility.”  One such player is Ben Zobrist.  When he is recalled he plays a plethora of roles in the team.  Just recently he has made starts at Shortstop, Second, Right Field, and DH.  Thats how my life can be summarized at Tropicana Field.  I clock in, with a couple of uniforms with absolutely no idea where I am going to end up.  I’m ok with this though because every day is different.
